What is The Draft Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2020?
The Draft Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2020 is the blueprint that
will guide the development of Kuala Lumpur for the next 20 years.
The draft plan contains the vision, goals, development strategies,
policies and proposal to realise Kuala Lumpur as A World-Class City.
Why is The Draft Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2020 needed?
The first Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan was gazzetted and published
in 1984 which covered the period 1980 to 2000. Kuala Lumpur Structure
Plan 2020 will replace the 1984 Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan (KLSP
84). The new plan is prepared under the provision of Section
10(1) Federal Territory (Planning) Act 1982 (Act 267).
The preparation of the draft plan is undertaken in the conviction
that most of the KLSP 84 policies have been rendered obsolete
by developments in recent years. Developments such as the Multimedia
Super Corridor (MSC), the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)
at Sepang and the transfer of federal government administrative
functions to Putrajaya were not anticipated in KLSP 84. Kuala
Lumpur also should be made ready for a competitive international
role in the world of the 21st century.
Will the Draft Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2020 indicate exactly
where the future development will be?
The draft plan details out issues, objectives and policies of the
relevant sectors that make up the City. The sectors are economic
base and population, land use, commerce, tourism, industry, transportation,
infrastructure and utilities, housing, community facilities, urban
design and landscape, environment and special areas.
Detailed proposal on physical planning will prepared at the local
plan stage.
