Bukit Kiara Public Park has an area of 14,515 acres (including the Rumah Panjang area). Originally this park was named Taman Rimba Bukit Kiara and was changed to Taman Awam Bukit Kiara.
The entire topography is flat while the mature trees were taken from the nursery at FRIM once upon a time. The site of this park originally housed the FRIM (Forest Research Institute of Malaysia) Nursery area which was taken over by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall in February 1995. There are three ponds in this area which used to be a source of watering trees and also as decoration.
The concept and features of the park is a forest concept in the city, where the flora features that are planned and planted are from species that are suitable for life in the Tropical Forest such as hardwood trees, ferns and creeping plants. This garden is also planted with fruit trees and non-poisonous plants for the safety of the wild animals found there, for example birds, insects and types of squirrels.
Basic facilities have been provided such as a children's playground, siarkaki, waqf, toilets, parking and so on are also provided for shared use. For the information of the visitors, the parking lot is built separately from the park because vehicles are not allowed to enter the park area. This is to avoid noise pollution from vehicles so that the natural atmosphere of the park is not polluted.
