Introduction

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, DBKL) is the local authority responsible for administering the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The agency operates under the Ministry of Federal Territories. DBKL is entrusted with responsibilities including public health and sanitation, solid waste management and disposal, urban planning, environmental protection and control, economic and social development, as well as the general maintenance of city infrastructure. Executive authority is vested in the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, who is appointed every three years by the Minister of Federal Territories of Malaysia, following the suspension of municipal elections in 1970.

History of Kuala Lumpur

From a small town, Kuala Lumpur has grown into the nation's capital and the largest city in Malaysia.

Today, Kuala Lumpur plays a vital role in various sectors, including business, finance, administration, education, religion, culture, and sports.

The municipal affairs of Kuala Lumpur have been managed by a sole corporation since April 1, 1961, initially under the Commissioner of the Federal Capital. This title was later changed to the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur when the city was officially granted city status on February 1, 1972.
